Job Title: Boating Education Assistant

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is seeking a Boating Education Assistant to join our team on a seasonal basis.

Job Summary:

The Boating Education Assistant will work with the Boating Division to educate boaters about clean and safe boating practices, conduct vessel safety checks, and promote the Clean Boater Pledge. The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of boating and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:
  • Interact with and educate boaters at boat launches throughout the state about clean and safe boating practices.
  • Conduct vessel safety checks as developed by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
  • Encourage people to become Clean Boaters by having them sign the Clean Boater Pledge and discuss the Clean Boater Action Guide.
  • Close the parking lot if it becomes full.
  • Report the condition of the boat launch.
  • Perform light maintenance at the boat launch.
  • Submit weekly summaries detailing the use of the boat launch.
  • Assist with public outreach events, as needed.
Requirements:
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of boating.
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Boating Education Assistant certification.
  • Knowledge of aquatic invasive species and their impact on the environment.
Special Requirements:
  • Incumbents in this class who are assigned as supervisors of small recreational units will perform emergency first aid as needed and will be required to obtain and retain a Basic First Aid Certificate.
  • Incumbents in this class may be required for certain positions to meet any of the following: Proof of possession of a valid Motor Vehicle Operator license. Possession of a valid license to apply pesticides. College training in a specific field. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may be required by specific State facilities.
  • Incumbents performing lifeguard services must have and retain an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguarding Certification (includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Basic First Aid). An EMT or MRT certification may be substituted for the CPR and First Aid requirements.
Physical Requirements:

Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain adequate physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the class.

Incumbents performing lifeguard services must be able to demonstrate American Red Cross (ARC) waterfront lifeguarding swimming skills.
