Job Title: Datacenter Technician

Join ALTA IT Services as a Datacenter Technician and take on the challenge of maintaining a complex communications network with 99.99% system uptime and zero defects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitor and maintain system uptime, identifying and resolving technical issues promptly.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, customer problem tracking, and network problem resolution in all networking aspects.
  • Administer systems, monitor networks, and manage new buildouts, existing network changes, and maintenance.
  • Develop procedural and technical recommendations for improvement and plan the implementation of new products into the production environment.
  • Maximize system capacity and efficiency by monitoring specific system limitations and performing equipment-level capacity planning and network performance activities.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and configuration management records, ensuring compliance with Data Center Standards, Service Management Quality Program, and ITIL standards.
  • Assume responsibility for escalation and emergency response requests in a 24x7x365 environment.
Requirements:
  • 2+ years of experience as a technician in SATCOM/Terrestrial environment with LAN/WAN industry standards, working knowledge of TCP/IP, and Ethernet configuration and functionality.
  • Industry certifications (Microsoft, Linux, VMware, Cisco, CompTIA, and ITIL) are a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux systems is desirable.
  • Candidates must have excellent problem-solving, customer relations, conflict resolution, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of satellite technology and terrestrial technology (i.e. DSL, WIFI, Cable) is required.
  • Experience with Cisco, HNS, CATV/IPTV and other Telco and IP protocol core network and equipment is a plus.
  • Candidates must be highly self-motivated and independent, and comfortable working with others in a distributed environment.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Candidate must be able to do the following with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Climb ladders to heights of up to 20 feet.
  • Work with hands and arms above their head for an extended period of time.
  • Carry equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to work repetitive tasks like installing/deinstalling cables/equipment.
  • Have the dexterity to terminate various types of cabling (i.e. CAT6/6A, coaxial cable, fiber cable) with precision.
  • Work in a 24x7x365 work environment.
