Responsibilities of the Sonographer:
1. Generate high-quality ultrasound images and acquire necessary measurements for each examination.
2. Identify the sonographic characteristics of both normal and abnormal tissue structures to ensure optimal image quality for documentation.
3. Accurately document all relevant patient and procedural information.
4. Gather and assess pertinent patient history and physical findings that may influence the ultrasound examination.
5. Clearly explain procedures to patients to enhance comfort and cooperation.
6. Monitor patients throughout all stages of the procedure, prioritizing their emotional and physical well-being.
7. Communicate patient information professionally and courteously to patients and referring physician offices as necessary.
8. Maintain ultrasound equipment in a clean and safe condition, ensuring proper maintenance and safety protocols are followed.
9. Calibrate and maintain equipment, and manage supply orders as needed.
10. Schedule and coordinate ultrasound tests.
11. Prepare and maintain operational logs.
12. Assist with Quality Assurance and Improvement audits and activities as required.

Qualifications:
ARRT Registry or ARDMS Registry required.

The ARDMS must include successful completion of one registry relevant to the department beyond physics (options include OB, abdominal, neuro, breast, and vascular). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is also required. Previous ultrasound experience is preferred.
