About the Team
This role of Director of Curriculum and Instruction is situated within our high school, Freire Charter School Wilmington, which serves grades 8 through 12. At Freire, we emphasize the dual goal of graduation—both from high school and college. We inspire our students to reach unprecedented heights and provide the necessary support, including personalized college counseling. The Class of 2023 achieved acceptances to 81 distinct colleges and universities, garnering over $10 million in scholarship offers. This achievement is a testament to the Freire Wilmington community, where students and educators collaborate to shape the futures that each student aspires to.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Director of Curriculum and Instruction holds a pivotal administrative role, assisting the Head of School in articulating and advancing the vision for educational excellence at Freire. This position is accountable for student learning outcomes and encompasses the following responsibilities:
- Leading mentoring initiatives, instructional coaching, and the evaluation of teaching personnel alongside the Head of School.
- Establishing the school-wide instructional focus and professional development strategy for the academic year.
- Overseeing the creation and execution of a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum that aligns with state standards and assessment protocols.
- Directing the implementation of standards-based assessment methodologies to foster a data-informed culture.
- Setting performance objectives with instructional staff and ensuring achievement through ongoing coaching.
- Collaborating closely with the Network Performance Management Team to develop and implement a framework for strategic data utilization; assisting the team in leveraging student and staff performance data to enhance teaching and learning.
- Conducting classroom observations, providing instructional coaching, and managing teacher performance evaluations in partnership with the Head of School.
- Facilitating the coordination of internal and state assessments.

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Possession of a current, valid teaching certification.
- Experience in analyzing student performance data and utilizing it to inform instructional practices.
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in high-need educational settings, with additional leadership experience preferred.
