Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Designer 2 to join our team at Huntington Ingalls Industries. As a Mechanical Designer 2, you will be responsible for designing components or portions of systems and modifying existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations.

You will utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as CAD, CAM, NX, or CATIA to gather information, make studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal.

Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.

This role will include visits to the ship for "shipchecks" to identify problems and help come up with resolutions. Shipchecks will include moderate walking, climbing stairs and vertical ladders.

Requirements
  • Associate's Degree and 1 years of relevant experience
  • One of the following may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • AAS Drafting and Design or Engineering Technology
  • Mechanical Knowledge / Experience
  • AutoCad Experience
  • Inventor Experience
  • NX and Teamcenter Experience
  • Shipbuilding / Trade Experience is a plus
