Anesthesia Technician Assistant

This role provides critical support to the anesthesia department by ensuring the smooth operation of equipment, supplies, and services. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing medications, stocking, ordering, cleaning, and maintaining equipment, as well as stocking supplies. Additionally, this position will be responsible for monitoring quality control and operation of equipment, transporting patients to and from the O.R., handling routine tasks related to patient care, and organizing equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Clean, check, restock, prepare, and maintain all anesthesia equipment and supplies for each surgical case.
- Ensure anesthesia machines are in surgical suites, add specialty equipment and supplies to suite set-ups, and assist in troubleshooting of equipment.
- Work closely with Biomed to resolve issues with equipment.
- Partner with scheduler and unit management team to anticipate special needs of each anesthesiologist.
- Respond immediately to requests from the anesthesiologists during cases.
- Assist the anesthesiologists in surgical suites as needed, especially during emergencies, difficult intubations, and traumas.
- Assist in room turnover and prepare anesthesia equipment for next case.
- Restock anesthesia supplies in sterile processing department as needed.
- Collaborate with other care site staff/departments to support anesthesia supply ordering and inventory.
- Assist in general cleanup in Perioperative Services.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
- One year clinical experience in an accredited hospital is preferred.
- Understanding of medical terminology is preferred.
This role requires ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc). May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
