Job Overview

Wegner CPAs is partnering with our client in Columbus, WI to fill their Applications Engineer (Mechanical) position.

This role involves providing engineering support during pre-sale activities and serving as a technical resource in servicing companies' products. The successful candidate will be responsible for quoting OEM components, costing/estimating, and providing technical support for sales.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAD design and experience working in a manufacturing or applications-related CAD environment. Proficiency in latest computerized design applications, such as AutoCAD, Pro-E, and Inventor, is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and check sales application drawings, including pre-approval drawings and plant layouts, while meeting customer needs.
  • Work with Sales, Customer, and Vendors to spec and quote 3rd party equipment, including gearboxes, pumps, heat exchangers, chillers, conveyors, and bulk handling systems.
  • Perform field surveys to ensure designed systems will fit customer's manufacturing area structure and coordinate survey findings with drawings/layouts and Project Engineers.
  • Make suggestions for design modifications to facilitate building obstructions, utilities, or product quality issues.
  • Understand and apply companies' engineering/design standards and practices, quality system procedures, and other standards/procedures as appropriate to the applications function.
  • Work closely with Project Engineers, Sales, Estimating, Manufacturing, Installation, and Service to coordinate pre-sales design issues and pre-approvals.
  • Assist with machinery manuals prior to equipment shipping and assist with product testing when required in the company's testing facility or at customers' locations.

Requirements:

  • Two-year associate degree in Technology Management or Computer Aided Drawing (CAD).
  • Proficiency in latest computerized design applications.
  • Minimum three years of experience within manufacturing or applications-related CAD work.
  • Ability to effectively check all drawings for errors or deviations from standard practice prior to submittal to customers or manufacturing.
