About the Role:

To coordinate and participate in a variety of complex technical tasks in the performance of laboratory tests used to obtain data for use by the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process and accession patient samples.
  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests that may include chemical, microscopic, bacteriologic and other examinations, from waived to high complexity.
  • Operate and maintain manual and automated laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare reagents, chemicals, and other solutions.
  • Evaluate and release patient test and quality control results.
  • Participate in the evaluation and installation of new instruments and/or test procedures.
  • Participate in quality processes.
  • Train new staff members and respond to questions from clinic staff.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education:

Medical Technologist: Bachelor's of Science Degree in Medical Technology or related field and certification as Medical Technologist by a nationally recognized board/agency.

Medical Laboratory Technician: Associate of Science Degree in Medical Technology or related field and certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by a nationally recognized board/agency.

High School Diploma: High School Diploma or equivalent and meet the qualifications for high complexity personnel outlined by CLIA.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before individuals or groups of people.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate basic figures and amounts. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of basic computer software.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrate a positive, cooperative and professional attitude towards co-workers and public.
