The CNO collaborates closely with fellow executives to enhance clinical quality, elevate patient outcomes, and uphold a patient-focused care philosophy.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Direction: Formulate and execute nursing strategies that align with the organization's mission and objectives. Spearhead initiatives aimed at refining clinical practices, boosting patient outcomes, and enhancing overall resident satisfaction.
- Clinical Management: Guarantee that all nursing services comply with state and federal regulations and standards. Assess clinical performance and implement best practices to ensure superior care quality.
- Personnel Oversight: Manage the recruitment, training, and retention of nursing personnel. Cultivate a supportive work environment that promotes professional development and growth. Ensure staff are well-trained and proficient in their responsibilities.
- Quality Enhancement: Lead initiatives focused on improving patient care, minimizing incidents, and maximizing operational efficiencies. Utilize data-driven insights to pinpoint areas needing improvement.
- Compliance Assurance: Ensure all nursing operations adhere to applicable healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies. Act as the liaison for regulatory bodies and accreditation organizations.
- Financial Oversight: Develop and oversee the nursing department budget, ensuring efficient resource utilization. Monitor financial outlays and implement cost-control strategies as necessary.
- Collaborative Engagement: Partner with other executive team members, including the CEO, COO, and CFO, to synchronize nursing operations with the organization's strategic goals.
- Patient-Centered Care: Advocate for a resident-focused care model that honors the dignity and preferences of each individual. Ensure personalized care plans are developed to meet the unique needs of residents.
- Crisis Leadership: Direct nursing teams during emergencies, ensuring uninterrupted care for residents and adherence to established protocols by staff.
- Stakeholder Relations: Foster and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including residents' families, healthcare providers, and community organizations. Represent the organization at industry conferences and events.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required; a minimum of 10 years of nursing experience with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity within long-term care or skilled nursing environments; an equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Oregon.
- In-depth knowledge of long-term care regulations, quality improvement methodologies, and nursing care standards.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities. Capable of managing complex scenarios, making critical decisions, and leading a substantial team of healthcare professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration (MHA) is preferred.
- Certification in Nursing Administration or a related field is preferred (e.g., CNML, NEA-BC).
