Key Responsibilities:
QC Laboratory Technicians are responsible for executing manufacturing and inventory control processes within a highly regulated environment—from the receipt of unprocessed blood to maintaining precise records of finished goods in preparation for distribution to hospitals. Successful QC Lab Technicians will exhibit strong attention to detail, a customer-service orientation, and the ability to treat both internal and external customers with compassion at all times.
As a member of the Red Cross team, you will support your colleagues—attending every shift and giving your utmost while present. Engage in a positive, proactive, and customer-focused manner with both internal and external customers, demonstrating care and compassion consistently.
Key Duties Include:
- Manufacturing, labeling, testing, sampling, and storing blood products/samples in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
- Meeting the quality and quantity production and distribution goals set by the department, ensuring products/samples are suitable for release.
- Implementing effective inventory management practices throughout the manufacturing process.
- Operating, maintaining, and performing validation and quality control checks on equipment, ensuring adequate inventory of necessary supplies.
- Conducting data entry and utilizing computer programs associated with component production, labeling, storage, and sample tube management.
- Maintaining accurate, legible, and complete records for the manufacturing department, including electronic and physical inventory locations for products/samples.
- Analyzing and making decisions based on visual inspections and information from other departments to meet time requirements and quality standards.
- Identifying and quarantining products/samples that do not meet quality standards and performing disposition of unacceptable products/samples.
- Executing complex manufacturing tasks such as pooled product manufacturing, freeze, wash, or deglycerolizing of blood products, pathogen reduction, and further manufacturing of apheresis products.
- Participating in on-the-job training for staff.
The aforementioned responsibilities outline the general nature and level of work and are not an exhaustive list.
Standard Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 11:00pm-7:30am with rotating weekends and holidays required.
Compensation: $18-$19, plus any applicable shift differentials for late nights, overnight shifts, or weekends.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a regulatory, laboratory, or manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
Proficient computer skills, ability to utilize a variety of programs and laboratory equipment, strong attention to detail, accurate documentation, and sound decision-making skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires standing, stretching, stooping, and bending for extended periods. Ability to lift, pull, push, and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May involve working in walk-in refrigerator/freezers for periods of time. Protective clothing such as lab coats, gloves, and face shields may be required.
