The estimated annual salary for this position ranges from $45,000 to $65,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

Job DescriptionAbout the Role

This exciting opportunity seeks an active respiratory student who has completed their first year of an approved respiratory program to join our team as a Respiratory Care Assistant.

As a Respiratory Care Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist, performing diagnostic and therapeutic clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of clinical practice.

You will be responsible for verifying physician orders, understanding pharmacological indications, dosages, and responses to adverse drug reactions, consulting with providers based on patient care assessments, providing education to patients and families, monitoring response to all therapy, documenting patient information, and communicating with the healthcare team.

You will also perform diagnostic cardiopulmonary procedures, including nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning and sampling, arterial blood gas punctures, pulse oximetry, and EtCO2 monitoring, pulmonary function tests, bedside pulmonary mechanics, and EKGs.

In addition, you will recognize life-threatening situations, initiate appropriate responses, perform CPR, and bag-mask ventilation.

You will assure correct setup, safety, and function of all equipment and supplies necessary for patient care, adhere to infectious disease standards, participate in quality improvement activities, maintain necessary safety and life support certifications, and provide therapy such as oxygen supply systems, equipment processing, manual resuscitation, oxygen administration, humidity and aerosol therapy, small volume nebulizer, MDI administration, incentive spirometry, airway clearance therapy, arterialuncture, ECG (if performed by the hiring institute), and patient reporting.

Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Active enrollment in a 2-year approved respiratory care program (Associates Degree or equivalent) and good standing.
  • Completion of the first semester of the respiratory care program.
  • No required experience beyond clinical affiliation of the respiratory program.
  • Registration with the Board before providing Respiratory Care procedures as a Respiratory Care Assistant.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and other applicable certifications.
  • Maintain annual skill requirements, safety/compliance requirements, and North Carolina license requirements for CEUs.
