Position Overview:

The Global/Regional Publications Senior Manager will spearhead the development of Strategic Publications Plans that align with the overarching medical communication strategy and objectives for specific assets, ensuring coherence with the established publication strategy at the asset and regional levels. In this capacity, the Senior Manager will collaborate closely with the Global/Regional Publications Director.


Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager is accountable for the advanced execution of plans, ensuring timely delivery in accordance with prioritization, resource availability, and adherence to company policies, good publication practices, and the highest quality standards.

The role involves editorial oversight of priority publications, management of document tracking within the publications management system, and support for reporting and monitoring processes.


As a recognized publication professional, the Senior Manager will possess a deep understanding of Good Publication Practice (GPP) and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) guidelines, fostering the compliant development of accurate and timely publications.

These initiatives will bolster the Global Medical Affairs plans and the organizational objectives of GlaxoSmithKline.

Role Responsibilities:

In this role, you will lead a cross-functional publication team to formulate strategic publication plans and detailed tactics for execution.

Collaborate closely with the medical function to integrate the strategic publication plan into the broader medical strategic framework, ensuring alignment and input from global and regional/country teams in partnership with the Regional Publications team.

Effectively communicate the publication plan to diverse audiences and oversee the execution of publication strategies within a structured framework that adheres to established best practices.

Manage external agencies in the production of deliverables as necessary, maintaining a strong focus on scientific integrity and ethics, and addressing any deviations from company policies or values.

Oversee all financial and contractual aspects of assigned projects, including vendor relationships, while establishing robust working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Act as the primary contact and publications expert for both internal and external stakeholders, including consultants, advisors, external experts, journals, and professional societies.

Facilitate proactive communication regarding publication plans tailored to the specific needs of various functions and seniority levels.

Participate in cross-functional initiatives aligned with overall team objectives and proactively identify emerging compliance risks, contributing to risk mitigation strategies.

Lead efforts to establish and strategically implement enterprise best practices.


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

We seek professionals with the following qualifications: a PhD or medical degree in science, pharmacy, or a related health field, or an MSc or Bachelor's degree in science, pharmacy, or a related field, along with extensive practical experience.

Significant experience in publications management, scientific communications, and/or medical affairs with a focus on external scientific engagement is essential. Strong analytical skills for data interpretation are required.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, are critical. The ability to work independently on specific tasks and prioritize workload effectively is necessary.

Proficient communication with team members and stakeholders regarding the planning and development of publication deliverables, including management of agency partners and associated budgets, is expected.


Preferred Qualifications:

While not mandatory, the following skills are preferred: experience in a pharmaceutical environment and the ability to influence within a multifunctional matrix team.

Demonstrated personal and scientific credibility to engage with global external experts recognized as leaders in their field is advantageous. Skills in building and maintaining business relationships at all levels across the matrix are beneficial.

Ability to influence others and navigate complex issues to achieve consensus is valued, along with examples of effectively listening to diverse perspectives and influencing change.

Familiarity with GlaxoSmithKline processes and Scientific Engagement principles is preferred, as is experience with Datavision/iEnvision Publication software. Demonstrated leadership qualities and solution-oriented thinking are also desirable.
