Job Summary
The Lead Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in a hospital setting. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Lead PCT assists the nursing staff in providing patient care, performs delegated tasks, and assists with more advanced procedures based on their skills and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the implementation of nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.
- Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information, including vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, intake and output, calorie counts, and other patient information as outlined by policy.
- Assist with mobility by regular turning and positioning, dangling, and ambulating patients.
- Assist with the use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs, and transfer patients to and from other units, departments, or entities.
- Assist with discharges and demonstrate proper body mechanics.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination.
- Change bed linens as needed and perform hourly rounding to respond promptly to patient requests.
- Engage in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
Requirements
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- 6 months of experience in a hospital setting is required.
