Position Overview:
Under the direction of the Chief Building Official and the Operations Administrator, the Building Compliance Specialist is responsible for performing technical and investigative duties related to enforcing municipal property standards, ordinances, and regulations.

This role involves conducting investigations based on various complaints and ensuring adherence to laws and departmental policies. The specialist will work independently, demonstrating sound judgment in resolving complex issues or escalating them as necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
- Engage with the public to collect expired permit fees and process related documentation.
- Conduct field studies, inspections, and audits regarding potential violations.
- Summarize and document investigative findings, preparing necessary records and reports.
- Monitor the status of complaints and follow up on violations, issuing citations when required.
- Collaborate with Code Enforcement personnel and assist in legal proceedings as needed.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, along with five years of experience as a General Contractor in a supervisory role. Additional qualifications include certification as a Structural, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical Inspector from the appropriate boards.

Skills and Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of modern construction practices and local building codes.
- Ability to interpret plans and specifications effectively.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in data management.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Physical Requirements:
This position may involve moderate physical demands, including lifting and moving objects up to 50 pounds, as well as tasks requiring extended periods of standing or walking.

Work Environment:
Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor settings, with potential exposure to varying weather conditions.
