Production Operations Leader

As a key member of the management team, the Production Operations Leader will report directly to the Plant Manager. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the facility is equipped with the necessary personnel and infrastructure to achieve timely production of high-quality products while maintaining cost efficiency. The leader will also spearhead initiatives aimed at fostering continuous improvement across various operational metrics including safety, quality, delivery, cost, and working capital.
Core Responsibilities
- Oversees and prioritizes a proactive safety program on-site, ensuring the ongoing safety of all production staff across various departments such as machining, assembly, painting, and shipping.
- Drives substantial and sustainable enhancements in on-time delivery, service levels, and lead times.
- Plans, directs, and manages production activities while establishing priorities in a fast-paced and complex environment with short lead times.
- Responds effectively to fluctuations in demand, production challenges, material availability, workflow, personnel issues, and equipment reliability to ensure optimal operations, high quality, timely delivery, and minimal costs.
- Complies with the Quality Management System and associated processes.
- Enhances quality performance metrics including warranty claims, customer feedback, scrap rates, and first-pass yield.
- Maintains and continuously improves the Lean Business System in collaboration with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
- Leads lean initiatives through oversight of improvement projects, daily management practices, visual workplace strategies, SQDC reporting, root cause analysis, and related corrective and preventive actions.
- Develops and manages the departmental budget, including headcount, hours worked, overtime, and expenses.
- Ensures adherence to established processes, ensuring timely and accurate production transactions and material movements to maintain transaction integrity and inventory accuracy.
- Collects, analyzes, and reviews production and performance data to monitor, control, and enhance operational performance.
- Promotes a collaborative team environment by providing guidance, focus, and direction to plant personnel, ensuring alignment with manufacturing priorities and requirements.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Proficient knowledge of manufacturing operations and methodologies.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Strong skills in team building, decision-making, and personnel management.
- Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies and lean manufacturing principles.
- Understanding of all phases of project management, including initiation, planning, execution, control, and closure.
- Excellent personal time management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Skilled in utilizing analytical tools and techniques to analyze data, identify root causes, and lead problem-solving efforts to implement effective solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Experience in developing lean culture and implementing lean tools.
