The Culinary Service Associate role is situated within the Nutrition & Food Service department at the Veterans Health Administration. The associate will be capable of executing all responsibilities of entry-level staff and may work across multiple areas of the kitchen, including food preparation, dishwashing, storage management, and food service.
Eligibility
This position is available to all U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or individuals who have allegiance to the United States.
Key Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing and organizing assigned workstations with necessary supplies and food items;
- Portioning food into standard serving sizes using appropriate utensils;
- Assembling and placing correct items on patient meal trays;
- Determining suitable food items for various dietary needs;
- Identifying discrepancies between prescribed diets and available food items;
- Setting up dining areas for service, including replenishing food and beverages as needed;
- Delivering meal trays to patients and communicating their feedback to supervisors;
- Assisting cooks with food preparation tasks, including measuring and mixing ingredients according to established recipes;
- Preparing fresh fruits, salads, dressings, and simple desserts;
- Interpreting menus and dietary cards to ensure compliance with patient selections;
- Conducting thorough cleaning of food service areas;
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate relevant training or experience that showcases their ability to perform the required duties. Experience can include both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work.
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. citizenship is required;
- Background and suitability investigations may be conducted;
- Random drug testing may be implemented;
- Probationary period may apply;
- Selective Service registration is mandatory for males born after December 31, 1959.
