Overview of Responsibilities
The primary objective of this role is to efficiently handle 9-1-1 emergency and non-emergency calls from the community seeking assistance from police, fire, or medical services. This position involves:
- Collecting, categorizing, and enhancing vital information from callers and inputting it into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Dispatching law enforcement personnel to service requests and offering support to field responders.
- Managing and processing inquiries, departmental records, and communications utilizing the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) systems.
Work Schedule
- The standard work schedule comprises three 12-hour shifts and one six-hour shift weekly, with a two-week rotation and every other weekend off. As a 24/7/365 operation, this role necessitates working various shifts, weekends, and holidays, including mandatory overtime as required.
Compensation
- Starting pay up to $28.51 per hour for candidates with over three years of relevant experience.
- Upon successful completion of training, employees may test for promotion to the Emergency Communications Operator II position, with a salary range of $52,178 to $69,925.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Responds to public requests for assistance and dispatches service calls to appropriate units while monitoring the status of emergency responders through the CAD system and radio communications.
- Obtains and verifies incident details from callers via verbal, text, and telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) conversations, adhering to established protocols and utilizing 9-1-1 telephone equipment, CAD, and GIS mapping systems.
- Accesses and maintains information from LEIN and NCIC systems.
- Monitors assigned channels and communicates with emergency responders using two-way radio equipment.
- Maintains records and prepares necessary reports.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- No related work experience required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

- Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to perform various tasks, often shifting from one type of duty to another.
- Proficiency in interpreting maps and maintaining accurate records.

- Confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
- Proficient operation of a multi-screen console connected to 9-1-1 telephone equipment and CAD systems.
