Electrical Controls Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Controls Engineer to join our Controls Engineering Team at Interactive Resources - iR. This role involves overseeing the electrical and instrumentation aspects of our custom pump and compressor systems, which are installed in refineries, petrochemical plants, and power stations globally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project and customer specifications to develop tailored control packages.
  • Ensure product safety is maintained across all designs.
  • Design and develop control systems (Siemens and Rockwell PLC) and machinery monitoring systems (e.g., Bently Nevada).
  • Utilize knowledge of Networking and HMI in system design.
  • Create and maintain documentation such as procedures, manuals, and project reports.
  • Interpret and work with electrical and mechanical blueprints, diagrams, flow charts, and P&IDs.
  • Generate PLC code, Bill of Materials, one-line drawings, wire lists, schematics, control narratives, and other control documentation.
  • Prepare and conduct Factory Acceptance Tests, including customer witness tests.
  • Design and troubleshoot communications networks and wiring (Ethernet, Modbus, Fieldbus).
  • Specify process valves and instrumentation for performance and anti-surge control systems.
  • Adhere to local and international regulatory codes.
  • Review and prepare skid electrical installations and associated BOM.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including planning, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Some travel required for field support and customer meetings, including occasional international locations.

Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of automation systems: PLC, DCS, SCADA/HMI, SIS, Electrical Design, Instrumentation Design, and Industrial IT.
  • Experience in configuring automation systems, developing code, specifying hardware, and modifying HMI graphics.
  • Understanding of Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical process systems is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of hazardous area electrical classification and international standards (NEC, IEC).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and drafting software.
  • Familiarity with MCC circuitry, VFDs, soft starters, and rotating machinery (pumps, compressors).
  • Experience with cable and conduit interconnection for instruments and motors.
  • Proven programming skills for Rockwell/Siemens PLC and HMI platforms.
  • Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field preferred.
  • 5-8+ years of relevant experience, with strong background ideally in chemical plant industrial processes, compressors, and pumps.
  • Experience with Rockwell PLC and control systems is essential.
  • Experience with creating HMI screens is advantageous.
