Job Summary:

As a Senior Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in performing a variety of technical, patient-attending, and clerical duties related to echocardiography. This position requires a high level of expertise and experience in adult and pediatric echocardiography, including the ability to operate complex equipment and interpret data.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Expertise: Obtain, measure, calculate, and record echocardiogram studies, positioning patients to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
  • Equipment Operation: Select transducer angulation, operate equipment in M-mode, 2D, and spectral Doppler and color Doppler techniques, and visualize various anatomical areas of the heart.
  • Data Analysis: Search for cardiac pathology, evaluate direction and speed of intracardiac blood flow, assess cardiac valves for pathology, and make permanent records of significant functional and/or anatomical and pathological data obtained.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Review, screen, and measure echocardiography data, notify cardiologists of critical abnormalities, and compile, record, and collate data for cardiologists to interpret and sign for patient records.
  • Procedure Performance: Perform echocardiography studies on outpatients and inpatients, including adult transthoracic echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms, adult contract studies, pediatric transthoracic echocardiograms, adult stress echocardiograms, and intraoperative echos.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Examine, clean, and maintain ultrasound equipment, refer significant problems to the Biomedical Department, and alert supervisors of equipment malfunctions.
  • Supply Management: Ensure adequate stock of supplies, replenish supplies as needed, and schedule patients for examinations.
  • Training and Development: Orient and train new hire diagnostic cardiac sonographers to conduct various echocardiography tests.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in adult or pediatric echocardiography, including experience or successful completion of a training program in the area of specialty, if applicable.
  • Education: Successful completion of an accredited ultrasound/vascular technology education program specializing in echocardiography, or equivalent related experience.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certificate or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certificate, and Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.

This position requires a high level of expertise and experience in adult and pediatric echocardiography, including the ability to operate complex equipment and interpret data. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
