POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Nursing Manager is responsible for overseeing the Medsurg Medical unit within the organization. This role serves as a vital support to the unit Director and nursing staff, ensuring 24/7 accountability for enhancing patient outcomes and experiences. The Manager is tasked with facilitating patient throughput, engaging staff, and managing operational and fiscal responsibilities. It is essential for the individual to maintain core nursing competencies as required by the specialty.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to achieve and maintain high patient satisfaction scores.
  • Monitor and ensure effective patient care rounds and shift reports are conducted to meet patient needs.
  • Address patient and family concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Conduct daily rounds to assess and improve patient care quality.

CLINICAL MANAGEMENT: Maintain expertise in the specialty area while demonstrating ethical and legal standards in patient care. Assist in developing strategic plans for unit outcomes and clinical initiatives. Support the Director in establishing sustainable processes that prioritize patient-centered care. Assume full responsibility for unit operations in the Director's absence.

PATIENT FLOW: Ensure efficient patient throughput by identifying and resolving barriers to patient placement. Collaborate with leadership and staff to facilitate timely bed assignments and patient movements.

STAFF ENGAGEMENT: Work alongside the Director to foster positive relationships within the team, enhancing commitment to organizational goals. Recognize and develop strategies for retaining high-performing staff.

QUALITY OUTCOMES: Assist in ensuring clinical performance aligns with organizational standards. Identify areas for improvement and support quality initiatives through data collection and implementation of changes.

COMPETENCIES: Demonstrate clinical competence by engaging in the nursing process and guiding care delivery. Monitor staff compliance with clinical standards and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

STAFFING AND SCHEDULING: Prepare and manage work schedules for nursing staff, ensuring adequate coverage and flexibility to meet unit needs.

HUMAN RESOURCES: Collaborate with HR to uphold Just Culture principles in managing staff performance and addressing adverse events. Participate in the hiring process and provide feedback for continuous improvement.

LEADERSHIP: Serve as a role model within the organization, leading by example and fostering a culture of excellence in service delivery.

FISCAL MANAGEMENT: Assist in the preparation and oversight of the unit's operational budget, ensuring financial accountability and resource utilization.
