About the Role:

As a Commercial Counsel at Neurocrine Biosciences, you will play a critical role in supporting the company's commercial, corporate affairs, regulatory, medical affairs, and general administrative departments. You will work closely with the legal and compliance teams, as well as internal business clients, to address legal issues across various disciplines.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Provide clear and business-savvy legal advice and risk guidance to commercial business partners and key stakeholders.
  • Support the company's commercial, regulatory, patient advocacy, corporate communications, medical affairs, and general administrative departments through late-phase drug development, pre-commercialization, regulatory approval, and commercialization.
  • Draft, negotiate, and advise clients on a broad range of legal and contractual matters to support the company's business.
  • Interact closely with business clients and third-party contracting parties to understand business requirements and ensure that contractual terms are consistent with the company's priorities and policies.
  • May draft and manage legal template documents and procedures.
  • Act as an advisor on legal issues involving the organization's government and regulatory compliance.
  • Reviews contracts and other legal issues, and advises the organization on appropriate legal action.
  • May counsel clients on trademarks, trade secrets, advertising law, and privacy.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree and 5+ years of practice as an attorney in a well-regarded law firm and experience with a life sciences company, and/or a reputable, highly rated law firm with a focus on representing life science companies, or a combination of both.
  • An active license to practice law in any state.
  • Ability to independently identify, analyze, and render legal advice on complex issues.
  • Ability to draft and negotiate agreements.
  • Ability to deliver clear, concise, and accurate advice, including the appropriate level of detail and anticipation of follow-up questions.
  • Ability to build consensus with diverse stakeholders and third parties and form strong, collaborative working relationships with clients.
  • Demonstrates proficiency and/or expertise in several of the following areas: general corporate matters, including corporate organization and governance, healthcare and regulatory compliance, drafting transactional documents and agreements, employment law, data privacy, risk management, contract management.
  • Expertise with respect to corporate compliance and transactional experience is required, including strong contract drafting skills.
  • Anticipates business and industry issues; recommends relevant process/technical/service improvements.
  • Demonstrates broad expertise or unique knowledge.
  • Applies in-depth expertise in discipline and broad knowledge of other closely related areas to improve efficiency of team.
  • Ability to work as part of and lead multiple teams.
  • Good leadership, mentoring skills, and abilities typically lead lower levels and/or indirect teams.
