Job Description:
A Medical Imaging Specialist (MIS) plays a vital role in creating high-quality images using X-ray equipment. The MIS must have strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills to ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Pre-Procedure Preparation: Review patient medical history, prepare X-ray equipment, explain the procedure to the patient, verify identity, and ensure proper positioning.
- Performing X-Ray Imaging: Position patients correctly, operate X-ray machines, adjust settings, and ensure image quality meets diagnostic standards.
- Patient Safety and Comfort: Follow radiation safety protocols, monitor patient comfort, and provide reassurance during procedures.
- Image Quality and Analysis: Review images, confirm quality, and repeat procedures as needed. Provide preliminary assessments to physicians within scope of practice.
- Post-Procedure Care: Assist patients after procedures, remove protective gear, provide instructions, and maintain accurate records.
- Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, check equipment, troubleshoot basic issues, and report malfunctions to staff.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping: Document patient information, procedures performed, and images captured in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaboration with Medical Team: Work closely with physicians, radiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure prompt and accurate image review.
- Radiation Safety and Compliance: Adhere to established safety protocols to minimize exposure to radiation for both patients and staff.
- Professional Development and Training: Stay current with advances in radiologic technology, participate in continuing education programs, and assist in training new technologists.
Requirements:
- Degree in Radiologic Technology or related field.
- Licensure or certification in the relevant state.
- Strong technical knowledge and excellent communication skills.
Estimated Salary: $120,000 - $150,000 per year, based on location and experience.
