Job Summary
The Medical Imaging Specialist will be responsible for operating MRI machines to create detailed images of the inside of patients' bodies. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Procedure Preparation
- Review patient medical history, doctor's orders, and previous imaging studies to ensure accurate procedures.
- Explain the MRI procedure to patients, addressing any questions or concerns to reduce anxiety.
- Verify patient identity and screening criteria to ensure safety.
- Prepare and position the MRI room according to established protocols.
- Conducting MRI Scans
- Operate the MRI machine, adjusting settings as prescribed by physicians.
- Position patients on the MRI table, ensuring comfort and adherence to safety standards.
- Administer contrast agents as directed by physicians, monitoring patients for adverse reactions.
- Ensure patient stillness during scans to obtain high-quality images.
- Patient Safety and Comfort
- Verify patient safety during MRI procedures, particularly regarding strong magnetic fields.
- Keep patients informed during scans, providing reassurance and instructions as needed.
- Monitor patients' conditions, including vital signs, during scans to detect potential issues.
- Post-Procedure Care
- Assist patients off the MRI table after procedures, ensuring stability and comfort.
- Provide post-procedure instructions, including follow-up treatments, care for injection sites, and other aftercare guidance.
- Maintenance and Equipment Care
- Regularly calibrate and maintain MRI machines, performing basic troubleshooting when necessary.
- Clean and disinfect the MRI suite and equipment between patients to adhere to infection control protocols.
- Monitor equipment performance, identifying malfunctions or issues, and alerting appropriate staff for repairs or servicing.
- Collaboration with Medical Team
- Communicate effectively with physicians, radiologists, and other medical staff to ensure correct image acquisition and patient needs.
- Work with healthcare professionals to review images, assess follow-up scan requirements, and discuss patient conditions.
Requirements
- A minimum of $80,000 per year, based on 10-hour shifts and 40 hours per week, tax-free stipend amount to be determined.
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as radiologic sciences or a related discipline.
- Current licensure or certification as an MRI technologist, preferably with additional certifications.
- Experience working with MRI machines, preferably in a clinical setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
