Position Overview

The Houston office of Coffman Engineers is seeking a driven Fire Protection Engineer with one to three years of relevant experience. We are committed to training the right candidate in this expanding field.

In this role, you will assist our Fire Protection Department in delivering comprehensive services to our clients, including:
  • Design of automatic suppression systems
  • Development of fire detection, alarm, and mass notification systems
  • Conducting code and egress analysis
  • Performing fire-resistant construction assessments
  • Executing smoke control evaluations
  • Researching general fire protection and life safety concepts

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution
    • Degree in Fire Protection Engineering is mandatory
  • Preferred registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
  • One to three years of practical experience
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and Revit is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
Key Responsibilities and Skills:
  • Proficient computer skills for daily tasks, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and basic graphics
  • Managing daily interactions with clients, leveraging experience and technology to meet their expectations
  • Conducting research and documentation for both internal and external purposes
  • Analyzing existing fire protection systems and designing new systems, including suppression, detection, and alarm systems
  • Interpreting building and fire codes
  • Utilizing software such as FDS, Pyrosim, and CONTAM for performance-based design
  • Exhibiting project management skills for both internal and external projects
