Position Overview

This role involves delivering direct patient care, education, and support within a specialized medical practice led by fellowship-trained physicians. The position serves as a clinical and community resource, educator, and consultant, capable of coordinating and providing care based on detailed treatment protocols established by physicians without the necessity for direct supervision.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, no weekends, holidays, or on-call duties

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver direct patient care in an outpatient specialty environment. Maintain an advanced understanding of disease processes, medications, and treatment options pertinent to the medical specialty. Conduct thorough assessments and evaluations of extensive health histories. Review the effectiveness of care and adjust plans as necessary, either independently or in consultation with a physician.
  • Execute phone triage effectively, engaging physicians when necessary while utilizing critical thinking and advanced knowledge to address most concerns independently.
  • Manage the triage of current patients and incoming referrals, prioritizing office visit scheduling and testing in collaboration with physicians. Communicate any changes in scheduling to the relevant physicians.
  • Assess the educational needs of patients and/or families, collaborating with team members and community resources to develop and implement educational plans, which may include one-on-one or group teaching sessions.
  • Assist with in-office procedures, ensuring patient comfort and safety before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Uphold patient safety by maintaining a secure environment, being aware of safety protocols, and adhering to patient care standards. Participate in environmental rounds to ensure a safe setting.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of performance improvement projects and policies specific to the specialty area, mentoring new team members until they achieve proficiency.
  • Collaborate with team members to design, develop, and execute educational programs and seminars within the community and Prisma Health.
  • Reflect on personal nursing practice in relation to professional standards, guidelines, state regulations, and current knowledge. Maintain competency through ongoing education and professional development, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Serve as a resource for and coordinate continuing education for team members and hospital staff, utilizing community resources as needed.

Supervisory/Management Role

This is a non-management position reporting to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.

Essential Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience within the specialty

Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses

  • Active South Carolina RN license

Alternative Qualifications

In lieu of 1 year of registered nurse experience, successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program will be accepted.

Additional Skills and Experience

Certification in the specialty area is preferred.
