About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Manager-Data Science to join our Global Decision Science group at American Express. As a key member of our team, you will apply advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to develop models that support personal loan underwriting decision making and other emerging business opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and implement models for emerging opportunities using machine learning techniques.
  • Communicate model algorithms and results to senior leaders and business partners.
  • Research and develop new machine learning techniques and their applications in risk management.
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field related to machine learning, such as mathematics, statistics, machine learning, pattern recognition, or operation research.
  • Hands-on experience in machine learning algorithm development or application.
  • Experience in large data processing and handling.
  • Familiarity with big data platforms and their applications, such as Hadoop, Pig, Hive, and Spark.
  • Proficiency in at least one popular programming language, such as Python, R, Java, Scala, or C++.
  • Familiarity with the credit card and/or installment loan industry is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, able to explain complex algorithms and results to business partners in simple terms.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, cross-functional environment with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently yet be a team player.
