Job Title:

Department Head, Physical Therapy

Job Summary:

The University of North Georgia is seeking a highly qualified Department Head for the Physical Therapy program. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the department in achieving its academic and research goals, while also providing strategic direction and oversight for the program.

Responsibilities:
  • Department Leadership:
    • Develop and implement a long-term vision for the department that aligns with the university's mission and goals.
    • Assess the department's progress in meeting its goals and make recommendations for improvement.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Department Curriculum:
    • Develop and implement curriculum changes to ensure the program remains relevant and effective.
    • Coordinate the development of new courses and programs.
    • Ensure that all curriculum changes are approved by the relevant university committees.
  • Department Operations:
    • Oversee the daily operations of the department, including budgeting and resource management.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective department operations.
    • Ensure that all departmental activities are aligned with the university's mission and goals.
  • Budgeting:
    • Develop and manage the department's budget to ensure effective resource allocation.
    • Monitor and analyze departmental expenses to ensure compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Personnel:
    • Recruit, hire, and evaluate departmental faculty and staff.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures for personnel management.
  • Students:
    • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain students in the program.
    • Ensure that all students receive a high-quality education and are prepared for their careers.
  • Management and Department Recordkeeping:
    • Ensure that all departmental records are accurate and up-to-date.
    • Develop and implement policies and procedures for recordkeeping.
Requirements:
  • A physical therapist with an active, unencumbered license in Georgia.
  • An earned academic doctoral degree (PhD preferred).
  • A minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience as a core faculty member in a CAPTE-accredited entry-level physical therapist education program.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in academia.
  • Documented strong performance in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preferred CAPTE accreditation experience.
  • Preferred experience in administration of programs in higher education, including strategic planning, budgeting, operations, and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Knowledge of programs within the department, including requirements, policy, procedure, operation, and management; accreditation requirements generally and specifically those that apply to the Southern Association for the Accreditation of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and CAPTE.
