Location:
Royston, UK

Department:
Maintenance

As the Lead Reliability Engineer, you will leverage your technical expertise and experience to establish the optimal maintenance strategy aimed at ensuring the enduring reliability of our operational assets.

This role encompasses the effective scheduling and planning of preventive maintenance activities in collaboration with production teams, technical support teams, external contractors, and internal resources. You will implement Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) and employ predictive maintenance techniques to guide decisions regarding necessary intrusive maintenance, thereby supporting optimal plant availability.

In close partnership with the Maintenance Manager, you will offer technical guidance on the repair, maintenance, and installation of equipment utilized throughout the facility, ensuring that operational requirements are met through timely and efficient resource allocation and effective prioritization of tasks.

This position is accountable for upholding safety and quality standards, ensuring team safety, and fostering a proactive EHS culture with a focus on zero harm.

The facility plays a crucial role within a high-tier COMAH site, and familiarity with ATEX, Functional Safety, and EHS critical equipment is highly desirable.

The work environment will involve a mix of office and plant shop-floor activities, along with regular visits to all production areas, including pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Promote and drive a positive Health & Safety culture while ensuring compliance with company policies and standards (including HR/EHS/Security) aimed at fostering a safe environment focused on zero harm.

Ensure that all safe systems of work are integrated into maintenance planning and scheduling, with effective checks and controls maintained, including PTW, POWRA, LOTO, and PSSR.

Reporting to the Commissioning Production Manager, you will provide technical input to lead the development and execution of the Maintenance Reliability Strategy.

Review OEM recommendations and create the necessary instructions for systems to function correctly during commissioning and start-up phases, including maintenance policies, safe systems of work, and isolation procedures for the plant.

Conduct appraisals and performance reviews as necessary. Monitor, review, and address personnel performance, attendance, and sickness issues, maintaining records in accordance with company policies and procedures.

Oversee contractors and ensure adherence to company standards and performance requirements, escalating any issues as necessary.

Operations involve mid-level complexity (e.g., higher technology) requiring more intricate maintenance/repair, coordination of resources, and budget awareness and control.

Qualifications:
HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical, Control, or Instrumentation.
Knowledge and understanding of Instrumentation & Process Control.
Familiarity with DSEAR / ATEX regulations.
Experience in managing contractors and service contracts.
5+ years of work experience ideally within a chemical or similar high-risk industry.
Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve objectives.

Compensation and Benefits:

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, including bonuses, excellent pension contributions, and 25 days of annual leave (varies for shift-based roles). Our inclusive culture is central to our values and ambitions for the future. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone can bring their full self to work and thrive in their careers.
