Job Title: School Nurse

Naugatuck Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a wide range of health care services to students and staff, promoting and protecting the optimal health status of our school community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a member of the school team, providing health care services and support to students and staff.
  • Assess the health needs of students and staff, providing timely referrals and interventions as needed.
  • Provide emergency first aid and work with the school community to identify and mitigate safety hazards.
  • Confer with parents, students, teachers, and other professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments.
  • Monitor students with special needs, maintaining accurate records and logs.
  • Provide guidance and counseling to families on health-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive records, logs, and reports, adhering to state and local regulations.
  • Determine if all students have complied with state-mandated health assessments and immunizations.
  • Coordinate the administration of prescribed medication and treatments for students in school.
  • Assume responsibility for vision, hearing, and postural screenings, making referrals and follow-ups as needed.
  • Write Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs) for students with special needs, incorporating plans into student IEPs and 504 Plans when indicated.
  • Make home visits, when necessary, to identify and manage health problems.
  • Arrange for physical examinations for students and athletes, interpreting results to students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Serve as a resource to teachers and administrators, providing current scientific information on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Monitor attendance concerns, especially when medical documentation is required.
  • Remain knowledgeable about state laws and regulations related to immunizations, medication administration, health records, and other issues.
  • Stay current with the school nursing profession through conferences, workshops, and professional readings.

Required qualifications include a valid RN license from the State Department of Health Services and current CPR Certification. Reports to the Supervisor of Nurses.
