Position Overview

Objective

  • Under the guidance of the School Principal, the role aims to enhance students' knowledge and proficiency in various scientific disciplines, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics. The educator will foster students' abilities in scientific methodologies and problem-solving, while also illustrating the relevance of science in addressing real-world challenges.
Key Responsibilities

  • Instructs students in multiple scientific domains, adhering to the district's educational framework.
  • Encourages analytical and innovative thinking across all subject areas.
  • Cultivates a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere conducive to individualized and group learning.
  • Develops comprehensive lesson plans and instructional resources, translating them into engaging learning experiences that challenge students and optimize instructional time.
  • Designs educational activities that showcase the practical application of science, including research projects, demonstrations, experiments, and laboratory exercises.
  • Guides students in the proper handling and maintenance of scientific tools, materials, and living organisms.
  • Conducts ongoing evaluations of student progress and adapts teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs, including those of students with special requirements.
  • Maintains awareness of district and state standardized assessments to tailor curriculum for maximum student success.
  • Pursues continuous professional development through workshops, seminars, and research to stay updated on educational advancements.
  • Organizes and oversees accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student-related activities as per district protocols and legal requirements.
  • Promotes parental engagement in the educational process and ensures effective communication with both students and their families.
  • Upholds student conduct in line with school standards and district policies, establishing a productive learning environment.
  • Collaborates with fellow educators, particularly within the same grade level, and actively participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and orders necessary instructional materials and equipment, maintaining inventory and ensuring functionality.
Additional Responsibilities

  • Undertakes other related duties as assigned by the Principal or designated central office administrators.

Equipment Utilization

  • Operates standard office equipment, including computers, printers, copiers, and telephones.
Travel Requirements

  • May require travel to various school district facilities and professional development events.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with contemporary teaching methodologies and educational strategies, including differentiated instruction tailored to diverse learning styles.
  • Proficient in a broad spectrum of scientific subjects, encompassing general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, physics, and related fields.
  • Competence in data management systems, data analysis, and the development of action plans.
  • Understanding of relevant federal and state educational regulations.
  • Proficient in utilizing computer networks and software applications as required.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication abilities with students and parents.
  • Commitment to self-assessment for performance and professional development.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues.
Physical and Mental Demands

  • Works in standard educational and office environments.

Qualifications

Certification/License:

  • State Certification as a Science Teacher or as required for the position.
  • Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant educational discipline.
  • Master's degree preferred.
Experience:

  • Previous successful teaching experience at the appropriate grade level is preferred.
