The main responsibility of the Occupational Therapist is to design, organize, develop, and oversee Occupational Therapy Services in accordance with the current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. This role is also directed by the administrator to ensure that the highest quality of resident care is consistently maintained.

Key Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist:

· Collaborates in creating tailored occupational therapy plans for individual residents, in alignment with the resident assessment (MDS).

  • Evaluates the occupational therapy needs of each resident admitted to the facility and assists the attending physician in formulating the resident's care plan.
  • Conducts interviews with residents to ascertain the type of treatment required and to schedule therapy sessions.
  • Selects appropriate rehabilitative and therapeutic activities and exercises based on residents' medical and social histories.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, assesses, and directs occupational therapy programs and activities.
  • Establishes and maintains occupational therapy standards.
  • Communicates occupational therapy policies and procedures to staff, residents, family members, and others.
  • Identifies the staffing requirements of the occupational therapy department to adequately meet the residents' needs.

Qualifications for the Occupational Therapist:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Possesses a current license and/or registration in the state of PA.
  • Must have training in rehabilitative and restorative therapy practices.
