General Patient Care Responsibilities The technician is responsible for addressing the comfort and hygiene needs of patients by providing essential services such as bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, and changing linens. Additionally, they distribute meals and beverages, monitor vital signs, and collect laboratory specimens.

Technical Support Duties This role includes assisting with patient testing and treatment procedures, setting up IV tubing, performing 12-lead ECGs, and executing simple tracheostomy suctioning and care. The technician is also responsible for changing dressings, performing CPR, and obtaining wound and throat cultures.

Equipment Management The technician aids healthcare professionals in the preparation and supply of necessary equipment.

Patient Transport Assistance The role involves assisting patients in ambulation with assistive devices and facilitating safe transfer and transport procedures.

Effective Communication Accurate documentation and effective communication are essential to meet the needs of patients and their families, while also adhering to regulatory requirements. Maintaining confidentiality of patient and departmental information is paramount.

Quality Improvement Initiatives The technician is expected to utilize time and resources efficiently to enhance quality and cost-effectiveness in patient care.

Minimum Educational Requirements:
Preferred: High School Diploma with relevant training through work experience or education.

Experience Requirements:
Required: Less than one year of job-related experience.
Preferred: 1-2 years of job-related experience.

Licensure and Certifications:
Required: Certified Nurse Assistant and BLS (Basic Life Support) certification through AHA.

Additional Qualifications:
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with verification on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or an equivalent educational background in a clinically focused program is required. Individuals with prior experience as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Health System may have different qualifications.
