We are seeking a skilled Cardiac Monitor Specialist to join our team at CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy. As a Cardiac Monitor Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective monitoring of patients with cardiac conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Confirm patient monitoring initiation and discontinuation with nurses, obtain pertinent information, and complete the plan of care for cardiac monitoring.
- Respond to monitoring alarms, identify abnormalities, interpret cardiac arrhythmias, triage actionable events, evaluate trends, and notify nurses according to alarm management protocols.
- Ensure safe patient monitoring by maintaining alarms with appropriate limits, responding to life-threatening arrhythmias, and communicating abnormal findings to nurses.
- Track patient monitoring activities, interpret and document cardiac rhythm strips, review and edit alarm categories, and produce 24-hour graphic summary reports.
- Communicate with nursing staff to check patient census, obtain information, report ECG signal problems, discuss clinical significance of cardiac arrhythmias, and review alarm parameters.
- Maintain shift documentation, keep the monitoring team informed of patients' cardiac rhythm activities, and provide unit hand-off reports.
- Perform Holter scanning analysis to produce daily cardiac arrhythmia management reports as ordered by physicians.
- Use established guidelines to review 24-hour event disclosure and communicate with nurses or residents when appropriate use of telemetry is needed.
- Enter daily telemetry charges for each monitored patient.
- Perform as a super user of the Monitoring System, assist nurses, physicians, residents, and learners in retrieving monitoring data, and evaluate equipment malfunctions.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.
- New hire must complete Basic ECG Interpretation class within two weeks.
- One month on-the-job training/experience provided to achieve competency in cardiac rhythm skills and operation of the centralized telemetry system.
- Within six months, employee is expected to complete certification for Cardiac Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT) offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International.
