Position Overview:
We are in search of a skilled and seasoned Software Engineer specializing in Backend performance. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the peak performance of our systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with Java applications, a proven ability to diagnose and rectify system challenges and performance constraints, and a comfort level working within intricate distributed systems across various cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and operations, to pinpoint performance bottlenecks, system challenges, and optimization opportunities.
- Perform comprehensive performance evaluations of Java-based applications through profiling, monitoring, and benchmarking to detect performance issues and recommend enhancements.
- Investigate the codebase to identify the underlying causes of performance problems, such as resource contention, memory leaks, and inefficient algorithms.
- Design and implement performance testing strategies to replicate real-world scenarios, stress-test system components, and reveal performance constraints.
- Develop, execute, and analyze performance experiments to assess the effects of code modifications and system configurations.
- Engage in hands-on optimization of system parameters, configurations, and resource allocation to achieve superior performance outcomes.
- Provide insights and recommendations to development teams regarding code optimizations, caching strategies, and concurrency improvements.
- Utilize performance monitoring and profiling tools to observe and analyze system behavior, proactively addressing potential bottlenecks.
- Collaborate on the design and implementation of performance-related features that enhance the overall scalability and efficiency of our systems.
- Document findings from performance analyses, optimization strategies, and best practices for future reference.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices related to Java performance and distributed systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline; a Master's degree is advantageous.
- At least 8 years of proven experience as a Performance Engineer, particularly with Java-based systems.
- Expertise in Java programming and a deep understanding of Java internals, memory management, and threading.
- Strong background in performance profiling tools and techniques to identify code and system component bottlenecks.
- Solid grasp of distributed systems architecture and design principles.
- Familiarity with multi-cloud environments and practical experience in optimizing applications for cloud deployment.
- Ability to analyze and interpret performance metrics to make informed decisions regarding system optimizations.
- Experience with performance testing frameworks and load generation tools.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their impact on application performance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and debug complex systems.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and presenting performance analysis findings.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of performance-related tasks and projects.
- Certifications in performance engineering or relevant cloud platforms are a plus.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving challenges.
