Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plumbing Shop Supervisor to join our team at North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. As a key member of our Physical Plant team, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the installation, maintenance, alteration, and repair of commercial water, gas, and plumbing systems, drain sewer, and stormlines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and plan work, work orders, and conduct field inspections.
  • Complete appropriate forms to request materials, assign man-hours, and equipment for maintenance contractors.
  • Plan and schedule work, and resolve conflicts or issues.
  • Coordinate information between craftsmen, contractors, and building occupants for work to take place.
  • Analyze the extent of interruption to normal use of the area involved for repairs or renovations and estimate each job for minimal to no impact on building occupants.
  • Determine through site visits whether repairs can be made or if replacements are necessary.
  • Conduct destructive or non-destructive testing to analyze problems.
  • Review and approve shop drawings submitted by contractors for accuracy and completeness, and inspect their work to determine adherence to plans and specifications.
  • Identify problems and document findings to contractors.
  • Establish a database for future work that can be used for quick reference estimates and to standardize equipment and building systems.
  • Monitor and inspect work of employees.
  • Operate and maintain university sewer and underground storm line systems, oversee all plumbing maintenance, repair, and renovation.
  • Check all plumbing repairs for plumbing code compliance and functionality.
  • Participate in the review of specifications and drawings for new buildings and/or facility modifications and upgrades, and offer recommendations for changes and/or improvements.
  • Apply knowledge of state and local plumbing codes.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalency, or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
  • Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
  • NC Plumbers License Required.
