Key Responsibilities:

The Principal Faculty member, serving as a Full-time Faculty Instructor in the Physician Assistant Program, is primarily tasked with course instruction and/or coordination throughout both the didactic and clinical phases of the program. This role demands proficiency in course design, delivery, and assessment.

The Principal Faculty/Faculty Instructor plays a crucial role in guiding students to consistently meet the program's Student Learning Outcomes, ensuring they acquire the competencies necessary for effective PA practice. Collaboration with the Directors of Didactic and Clinical Education, as well as the Program Director, is essential for curriculum assessment and adherence to ARC-PA accreditation standards.

This position is integral to the faculty team (rank commensurate with experience) within the Physician Assistant Program.

The Principal Faculty member is expected to uphold the South University philosophy, which emphasizes quality service, employee development, and a culture conducive to innovation and positive growth. This role includes 7.5 weeks of vacation and a sign-on bonus.

Essential Functions:
  1. Delivering instruction in the PA program, including:
  • Coordinating instruction for a minimum of six courses annually.
  • Lecturing in areas of clinical and/or professional expertise.
  • Providing academic support as a Small Group Facilitator and Student Advisor.
Supporting the Director of Didactic Education in managing the administrative aspects of the didactic phase.Assisting the Director of Clinical Education with the administrative coordination of the clinical phase.Contributing to curriculum development, including design and implementation.Engaging in ongoing curriculum evaluation and enhancement.Conducting student assessments through objective structured clinical examinations (OSCEs), lab practicals, and clinical reasoning evaluations.Evaluating student submissions, including clinical documentation and research projects.Creating assessments that align with ARC-PA accreditation standards.Providing input for accreditation processes and program evaluations.Participating in the admissions process, including open houses and candidate evaluations.Engaging in community service and scholarly activities relevant to the role.Participating in annual faculty development opportunities in teaching and academic administration.Assisting with clinical site development and monitoring.Providing remedial instruction as necessary.Performing additional responsibilities as assigned by the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education and Program Director.Executing duties as outlined in the Faculty job description in accordance with the South University Employee Handbook.Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Terminal degree in healthcare disciplines such as pharmacy, public health, or physician assistant; a minimum of a Master's degree is required.
  • Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in the applicable state and healthcare discipline.
  • 1-2 years of teaching experience in a graduate health-related field is preferred; 3 years of clinical experience is required.
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom instruction is preferred.
  • Current NCCPA certification is required for PAs.
