Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, you will provide nursing care and support for adult and geriatric patients with various medical conditions. Your responsibilities will include patient assessments, medication administration, direct and indirect patient care, circulating procedures, scrubbing for interventions, and documentation of procedures.

  • Conduct and document a comprehensive patient assessment upon admission.
  • Reassess and document any changes in patient condition.
  • Administer medications and monitor patient responses, documenting as necessary.
  • Oversee the patient's overall condition before, during, and after procedures.
  • Communicate any changes in patient status to the physician promptly.
  • Manage patients experiencing potentially life-threatening dysrhythmias or hemodynamic changes as per physician orders, utilizing medications and emergency equipment.
  • Explain procedures to patients and evaluate their understanding.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of 1 year of critical care and/or Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Preferred: 3 years of critical care experience.
  • Preferred: 1 year of diagnostic or interventional Cardiac Catheterization Lab experience.
  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License (Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as per St. David's Healthcare policy.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification as per St. David's Healthcare policy.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Preferred: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) and/or Critical Care RN (CCRN) certification.
  • Preferred: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
  • Preferred: Cardiac-Vascular RN (CVRN) certification.
