The Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) TRiO Program at CCCC serves a significant number of veterans annually from multiple counties. This initiative is designed to inspire and assist veterans in developing the academic and essential skills required for successful enrollment in postsecondary education. It offers assessment and enhancement of foundational skills through counseling, mentoring, tutoring, and academic instruction in core subjects. The primary objective of the program is to elevate the enrollment and completion rates of participants in postsecondary education programs. The VUB program operates primarily from the main campus, with partnerships at other community colleges.
Position Responsibilities
The VUB Part-time Program Assistant is responsible for providing administrative, outreach, and programmatic support for the Veterans Upward Bound initiative. This role includes assisting program participants within the designated service area. The position entails a commitment of 18 to 20 hours per week, which may involve travel to various locations and occasional availability during weekends and evenings.
Key Duties
Administrative Responsibilities (40%)
- Maintain accurate and timely records for participants, including applications, eligibility verification, participation documentation, and academic progress.
- Track data for current and previous fiscal years.
- Participate in regular meetings with VUB staff to review administrative reports.
- Prepare and submit weekly reports.
- Engage in outreach efforts and build networks for recruitment among local veteran-serving organizations.
- Attend community and veteran events to promote recruitment.
- Host informational sessions about the VUB program.
- Ensure recruitment and retention of program participants from the designated counties.
- Assist with communication to participants through various channels.
- Schedule appointments for program participants to meet with staff.
- Collaborate with TRiO staff for program assessment and improvement.
- Attend weekly staff meetings, either in person or via conference call.
- Assist in planning events and programs within the service area.
- Support mass communication efforts to participants as needed.
- Maintain a caseload of participants, providing one-on-one services regularly.
- Travel to service areas for recruitment and special events as necessary.
- Engage with community organizations to provide additional benefits or services for veterans.
- Complete required staff development activities.
- Adhere to college policies and procedures.
- Occasional travel for professional development may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Foster an inclusive learning environment that values diverse perspectives and experiences.
Education:
- Associate degree in Education, Social Science, Counseling, Humanities, Business, or a related field, along with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
