Position Summary:

  • The Respiratory Therapist specializing in Pulmonary Diagnostics and Rehabilitation is tasked with conducting pulmonary function tests, exercise assessments, and other diagnostic evaluations. This role also involves overseeing and facilitating outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the operational integrity of laboratory equipment through regular maintenance and adherence to quality control protocols as mandated by manufacturers and regulatory standards.
  • Conduct routine pulmonary and exercise diagnostics, assisting physicians with complex studies that require advanced technical skills.
  • Guarantee that all procedures are executed safely, consistently, and in alignment with established laboratory protocols.
  • Perform data collection, analysis, and reporting for all conducted tests.
  • Serve as a technical resource for pulmonary specialists and other referring physicians.
  • Supervise outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation sessions, including exercise training and educational initiatives.
  • Monitor patients during rehabilitation, assessing vital signs such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and overall well-being.
  • Provide individualized education and counseling to patients and families regarding pulmonary health, including home exercise and smoking cessation strategies.
  • Initiate emergency protocols, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, as necessary in both the Pulmonary Diagnostics and Rehabilitation settings.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of patient care and billing processes.
  • Participate in the training of new staff and the education of students as required.
  • Assist in managing inventory levels and the functionality of emergency equipment.
  • Engage in patient and family education initiatives.
  • May be required to perform duties of a Respiratory Therapist for inpatient care when appropriate.
  • Exhibit knowledge of safety and infection control practices.
  • Engage in continuing education to keep professional knowledge current and foster career growth.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist ( Mandatory )
  • Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist ( Mandatory )
  • Basic Life Support/BLS Certification ( Mandatory )
  • Registered Pulmonary Function Technician (RPFT) certification required within one year of employment.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate Degree in Arts or Science ( Mandatory ) AND a minimum of three years of experience as a respiratory therapist ( Mandatory )
  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts or Science (preferred)
  • Experience in pulmonary function testing or rehabilitation (preferred)
