Job Summary

As a Licensed Practical Nurse at Medstar, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality nursing care to patients and their families in an ambulatory setting. Your primary responsibilities will include assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, as well as collaborating with the primary medical care team to formulate and document ambulatory care plans.

Key Responsibilities

• Attend all scheduled meetings, including regular staff meetings and training classes for safety, infection control, OSHA, CPR, and other required topics.
• Collaborate with the primary medical care team to develop and implement ambulatory care plans for patients and families.
• Communicate patient clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format, ensuring that medical records are current, accurate, and contain appropriate documentation.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of patients and families, contributing to the achievement of established department goals and objectives.
• Develop and implement health education plans for patients and families, evaluating patient progress and conveying information to physicians as needed.
• Implement medical orders and perform procedures, including administration of medications, IV fluids, and blood samples, as well as respiratory procedures and patient instructions.
• Maintain current knowledge of accepted professional nursing practice and apply knowledge to the professional practice setting.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Valid LPN license in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and/or Virginia required.
• 1-2 years of experience in a medical office or ambulatory health setting, with emergency room or clinical experience involving substantial public contact preferred.
• LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia, or any combination as required based on work location, required.
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required.
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
