Job Summary

This role requires a highly skilled medical coder with expertise in ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 coding conventions to ensure accurate charge capture and compliance with established standards.

The successful candidate will work under direct supervision, deciphering operative reports and physician documentation to assign appropriate codes and maximize revenue. Key responsibilities include ensuring coding accuracy, quality, and timeliness of clinical data, as well as liaising between clinical and billing departments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coding Accuracy: Ensure charges are coded appropriately from the medical record, utilizing ICD-9/ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions.
  • Clinical Data Quality: Responsible for ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of clinical data contained in patient records.
  • Liaison Role: Acts as liaison between clinical and billing departments, providing support and answering questions in a timely manner.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:

  • A certified coding specialist (CCS-P), certified professional coder (CPC) or related credential from AHIMA or AAPC.
  • At least 2+ years' experience with E/M coding and 1+ year's experience with EPIC.
  • Proficiency in assigning and abstracting ICD-10-CM and CPT codes from provider documentation.
  • Advanced knowledge of NCCI edits and medical necessity.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

The estimated salary range for this position is $27.50-$35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
