Job Summary

As a Recreation Supervisor with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, you will play a vital role in designing and implementing evidence-based recreation programs for youth in secure facilities. Your expertise will help create a safe and engaging environment that promotes physical fitness, social skills, and decision-making abilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and lead recreation programs that align with the department's goals and objectives.
  • Supervise and train part-time recreational workers to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Conduct regular rounds to ensure youth on isolation and protective custody receive necessary services.
  • Collaborate with facility HR staff to manage recreation staff vacancies and communicate effectively.
  • Plan and coordinate activities, including scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of recreation staff.
  • Ensure compliance with DJJ policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain accurate records of service delivery and program evaluation.
  • Identify staff development needs and provide training to ensure staff are equipped to deliver high-quality services.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • OR Vocational/Technical degree in a related field from an accredited college and one year of experience in the area of assignment.
  • OR One year of experience required at the lower level Practical Instructor 1 (EDT010) or position equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
  • Experience in conducting structured recreational activities with a focus on teaching decision-making and improving physical fitness.
  • Experience delivering and facilitating structured leisure activities with a focus on teaching social skills.
  • Experience working with youth in a secure facility.
  • Experience supervising lower-level staff.
  • Experience managing a recreation and leisure program for youth.
Additional Information

This is an unclassified position that requires flexibility to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays. The selected applicant will be subject to a reference check and criminal background check, where applicable.
