Job Summary

First Step of Sarasota, Inc. is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare staff, you will play a vital role in promoting and restoring clients' health by completing the nursing process and collaborating with multidisciplinary team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Care: Identify client care requirements by establishing a rapport with potential and actual clients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements. Provide emotional and psychological support to clients.
  • Admission and Assessment: Coordinate daily with the Court Services Office to provide admission nursing screens and assessments for clients. Promote a smooth transition for clients entering Residential or Detoxification services as indicated.
  • Medical and Psychiatric Clinics: Assist Physicians with the weekly Medical and Psychiatric Clinics.
  • Client Education: Promote clients' independence by establishing client care goals; teaching clients to understand their condition and self-care skills; answering questions. Provide client psycho-educational groups on an ongoing basis.
  • Quality of Care: Assure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measuring health outcomes against client care goals and standards; making or recommending necessary adjustments; following nursing philosophies and standards of care set by the Florida State Board of Nursing, State Nurse Practice Act, and other governing agency regulations.
  • Nursing Sick Call Clinic: Provide nursing sick call clinic for clients two times weekly or more as indicated. Recommend appropriate referrals for clients.
  • Infection Control: Protect clients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Plant PPD's on all clients entering the Residential Treatment Programs unless contraindicated. Draw blood samples for RPR screenings on all clients as required.
  • Documentation: Document client care services by charting in client and department records; accurately complete required paperwork procedures.
  • Additional Duties: Provide nursing support to the Detoxification Unit as necessary. Provide oversight and support to the Technicians in the monitoring of clients' self-medication protocols and medication storage.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain customer confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential; following established confidentiality policy and procedures; maintaining professional boundaries with clients.
  • Teamwork: Maintain inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing.
