Raleigh, North Carolina, United States International Staff Consulting Full time

Position Overview

The organization is in search of a qualified professional to deliver a range of geotechnical engineering services. These services encompass various technical assessments and project management support associated with geotechnical engineering practices. The role requires a minimum of six (6) to ten (10) years of experience in geotechnical or related engineering fields. Proficiency in deep and shallow foundations, laboratory soil testing, and the preparation of technical reports with minimal oversight is essential.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of senior engineering personnel, the chosen candidate will be expected to utilize strong analytical capabilities in geotechnical engineering across diverse sectors, including commercial and telecommunications.

Expected Duties Include:

• Collaborate with geotechnical drilling subcontractors to finalize the field components of geotechnical investigations.

• Conduct soil and rock classifications along with laboratory analyses for geotechnical engineering evaluations across various sectors.

• Execute field resistivity tests; monitor and inspect foundation installations and modifications; perform hand auger and dynamic cone penetrometer tests; and log soil samples in the field as necessary.

• Complete geotechnical calculations to assess the capacity of existing foundations or to aid in the design of new foundation elements, pavements, and earth retention systems.

• Engage with related disciplines, both internally and externally, during the analysis and report preparation phases.

• Prepare and compile reports and supporting documents for all technical analyses.

• Review reports and documents prepared by other geotechnical engineers.

• Provide technical assistance to fellow geotechnical engineers.

• Manage personal workload to ensure timely completion of tasks.

• Coordinate and oversee subcontracted drillers, private utility locators, and other components of geotechnical investigations.

Given the fast-paced nature and tight timelines of most projects, the selected candidate should demonstrate a strong work ethic and interpersonal skills to thrive in an environment where effective communication with colleagues and strategic partners is crucial.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Computer Software
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel, is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical analysis software such as Shaft and gINT is advantageous.
  • Experience with drafting software (AutoCAD) is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of slope stability software like STABL Suite, Geoslope, or equivalent is a plus.
Personal Attributes

The ideal candidate will be a self-driven individual, capable of functioning in a collaborative environment aimed at efficiently completing projects. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as this role involves daily interactions with colleagues. The candidate should be proactive, focusing on career growth and client satisfaction through diligent work and technical expertise. The selected individual should also be prepared to evolve into a more senior engineering role as the client base and responsibilities grow.

Educational Requirements:

A Bachelor of Science in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required; a Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field is a plus.

Preferred Competencies:
  • PE registration is preferred.
Experience Requirements:
  • A minimum of six (6) to ten (10) years of engineering experience in geotechnical engineering or related fields, particularly in deep and shallow foundations.
  • Occasional travel, less than 10%, may be necessary for project meetings and field investigations.
Why Consider This Opportunity

Excellent company with a competitive salary and benefits package.
