Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled School Nurse to join our team at Newton County School System. The successful candidate will provide health services to students, modify or remove health-related barriers to learning, and work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and evaluate cumulative health data to accommodate individual student needs
- Consult and support school staff, parents, and students on student health issues
- Develop and implement system-wide health procedures and policies in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Provide training and professional development on health-related issues for school staff members
- Participate in IEP plan development and administer medication to students
- Assist with health fairs, student health screenings, and other health-related events
- Maintain records and reports for students with health-related conditions
- Promote and control communicable diseases
- Ensure proper use of forms, permission slips, and schedules for dispensing medication
Requirements:
- Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse
- Minimum of one year of experience in public health nursing, hospital, or related medical facility
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a school setting
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of principles and practices underlying professional nursing
- Knowledge of principles and practices underlying school health
- Ability to participate cooperatively in a program of school health nursing
- Ability to exercise professional judgment in making decisions
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, administrators, and healthcare providers
Essential Physical Abilities:
The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods, talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
