Commercial Counsel Opportunity at Artsy

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced commercial attorney to join our legal team at Artsy. As a Commercial Counsel, you will play a critical role in supporting the company's fast-growing operations and advising on complex commercial transactions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with senior colleagues to develop and maintain working knowledge of Artsy's business and build positive relationships with relevant business team colleagues.
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements, including standard contracts and complex strategic partnerships.
  • Negotiate and structure art purchase and sale agreements that transact through evolving e-commerce and offline transaction mediums.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales, operations, marketing, product, and engineering, to advise on how the company can work within the law to launch innovative products and initiatives.
  • Draft and operationalize terms of use, privacy policies, and practices for product offerings.
  • Advise on advertising, marketing, and copyright matters, including handling regulatory issues regarding digital media and reviewing and clearing marketing content and image rights for publication.
Requirements:
  • JD and New York state bar membership or registered in-house attorney status in New York.
  • 3-7 years of relevant work experience in an AmLaw 100 law firm or prior in-house legal experience; both is a strong plus.
  • High volume commercial negotiation and drafting skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with legal issues related to e-commerce, art transactions, and the art market is a strong plus.
  • Flexibility, self-starter, and intellectual curiosity necessary to thrive at an ambitious, dynamic company.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple critical projects, working independently and under tight deadlines.
