Position Overview:

The Maintenance Engineering Manager is tasked with ensuring that both the facility and production machinery are maintained effectively and designed to operate safely while achieving cost efficiency. The role operates from 7 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 'On Call' availability. This position encompasses support for two local sites, necessitating travel between them as required, including travel for training or plant observations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, justify, and implement capital projects.
  • Monitor machine performance, including repair and downtime history, and plan and execute necessary, cost-effective preventative maintenance activities.
  • Maintain an inventory of parts that accurately reflects operational needs in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Supervise technicians and oversee hourly maintenance craftsmen, including skilled electrical and millwright personnel, as well as onsite maintenance contractors.
  • Ensure the physical facility is maintained in a safe and cost-effective condition, meeting safety standards as required by regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with various departments to identify, justify, and execute projects aimed at enhancing safety, reducing manufacturing costs, improving production efficiency, and addressing equipment breakdowns or facility issues.
  • Engage with external company groups to complete projects that target productivity improvements.
  • Develop and justify departmental budget needs while maintaining costs within budgetary constraints.
  • Coordinate project activities, including equipment design and introduction, with project engineers and Central Engineering.
  • Support plant Environmental Health & Safety initiatives, including waste management and pollution control compliance.

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in maintenance areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, and boiler systems is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in using measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers is required.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite (MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel), are necessary.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience in reading blueprints, equipment manuals, and schematics is required.
  • Prior experience in implementing and maintaining Preventive Maintenance and Work Order schedules is preferred.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and complete tasks in stressful situations.

Education and Experience:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred.
  • Two to five years of progressive responsibility in a manufacturing engineering and maintenance environment is preferred.
  • Experience in the chemical industry or a similar industrial setting is advantageous.
