Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Health Physicist to join our team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a key member of our Radiation Protection Functional Area, you will play a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness and compliance of our radiation safety programs.

In this role, you will provide advanced health physics support to our team, conducting assessments and audits to comply with regulatory requirements. You will also serve as the point of contact for radiation protection program functional elements, assisting in the development and maintenance of associated program documents and processes.

As a Health Physicist, you will be responsible for evaluating and providing health physics input on radiation safety policies and procedures. You will also conduct site verifications, respond to radiological emergencies, and participate in event investigations.

Additional responsibilities will include providing guidance and clarification on radiation safety program implementation questions, contributing to the development and presentation of training courses, and performing other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and provide health physics input on radiation safety policies and procedures
  • Conduct assessments and audits to comply with regulatory requirements
  • Develop and maintain radiation protection program documents and processes
  • Provide guidance and clarification on radiation safety program implementation questions
  • Respond to radiological emergencies and participate in event investigations
  • Contribute to the development and presentation of training courses

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Physics, or Radiation Protection
  • Experience in operational health physics, including monitoring of personnel and work environments
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations and other consensus standards
  • Effective organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or higher degree in Health Physics or a related field
  • Certification by the American Board of Health Physics
  • Experience leading independent health physics work and providing technical direction to health and safety staff
