About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accounting Specialist to join our team at Girl Scouts Heart of Pennsylvania. As an Accounting Specialist, you will play a critical role in supporting the financial operations of our organization, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, and providing exceptional customer service to our members and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support volunteers on the Troop Banking Guide policies and procedures and assist with updates as needed.
  • Facilitate troop/service unit bank account setup, updates and closures as well as maintaining relationships with approved financial institutions.
  • Facilitate payout of financial assistance awards as determined by Member Services via check and/or ACH transactions through accounts payable.
  • Maintain rewards program accounting in cooperation with other departments, reconciling member balances with general ledger.
  • Support product program by preparing, recording and reconciling ACH transactions to transact council and troop proceeds and rewards.
  • Facilitate parent debt activity and maintain records per policies.
  • Cooperate with collections agency to handle failed parent debt commitments.
  • Manage tracking and updating of the ineligible girl/volunteer process.
  • Partner with Volunteer Support team to conduct, document, and complete troop leader banking investigations.
  • Adhere to council defined internal financial controls and policies to ensure that the council's assets are protected.
  • Provide support and analyses as required in connection with annual financial audit.
  • Provide professional, quality customer service to all customers (i.e. donors, members, volunteers, staff and other community contacts).
  • Handle confidential information with integrity and discretion.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the Girl Scout mission by representing GSHPA in a positive and professional manner.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in finance or related field, plus 3 years of experience in financial administration, accounting or bookkeeping, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in banking or not-for-profit environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including those standards related to not-for-profit entities.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel with knowledge of pivot tables and formulas; experience with Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook. CRM or other database experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated and a willingness to learn new skills.
  • Ability to utilize active listening skills to identify needs of customers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Conduct polite and professional communication in person in addition to via phone, virtual meetings, email, and/or mail.
  • Effectively identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have access to reliable transportation.
  • Pass and maintain required background clearances.
