Job Summary

The Staffing Coordinator will assist with planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the staffing needs within the Department of Nursing. This role will promote positive relationships with all staff and departmental leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain accurate schedules and attendance records.
  • Consistently communicate staffing changes to the unit by telephone, text message, and/or computer.
  • Strive to provide optimal staffing as per staffing plan for each assigned nursing unit and escalate appropriately when goals cannot be met due to resource limitations.
  • Adhere to safe scheduling practices.
  • Maintain accurate records such as unplanned absences (call-ins), Patient Attendant requests, Charge Nurse requests for increased staffing due to high acuity, low census process, etc.
  • Apply pay codes accurately (CTO, CTO/A, EA, AWOL, SICKLEAVE).
  • Use the electronic staffing and scheduling module and time and attendance module while assisting Managers/TLs or Charge nurses as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of each unit's "Master Staffing Plan" and flexible caregiver hours.
  • Ability to make fair and consistent staffing adjustments based on call ins, acuity changes, census, caregiver hours, experience of staff, and recommendation of the Manager, Team Leader, Charge Nurse and/or Nursing Supervisor.
  • Route information and telephone calls to the appropriate person.
  • Effectively communicate in a clear, concise manner to the Manager/Team Leader, Charge Nurse and/or Nursing Supervisor.
  • Understand the short notice time off process and adhere to staffing guidelines.
  • Prepare daily staffing huddle forms.
  • Communicate staffing needs accurately to the Administrative Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of attendance policies; maintain attendance records and generate unit reports at the predefined intervals.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
  • Adjust personal schedule to meet the needs of the department.
  • Attend in-service programs, all required training/education, and unit/department/service meetings.

  • Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and intranet.
  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required. Typing skills (30 wpm), strong interpersonal skills; must be able to work in stressful situations; practices professional telephone courtesy at all times; and must have computer skills.

Must be able to run in an emergency.

Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner.

Must possess stamina to work prolonged shift.

Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to flex fingers in a coordinated manner for typing.
